6 The same standard worldwide NXP opts for a worldwide management system Safety plays a major role in the automotive sector. Suppliers of components and electronics therefore have to meet high standards. NXP Semiconductors, a company that manufactures semiconductors for the automotive industry, operates worldwide in accordance with ISO/TS16949. DEKRA assesses compliance with this standard at NXP’s various sites and helps the organisation to operate in accordance with ISO and OHSAS standards in the fields of occupational health & safety and the environment. NXP is a large multinational with operations in over 25 countries, including 12 manufacturing plants. Its customers are also spread throughout the world. “They must be able to rely on us having efficient systems,” says Eric-Paul Schat, Senior Director Sustainability & Quality Systems. “Our customers set high standards. It’s important to have an independent expert to deal with quality and safety. In that way we can provide assur - ance, regardless of at which NXP plant a product has been manufactured.” Knowledge NXP Semiconductors has only existed in its present form since 2006. Before that it was a division of Philips. “The contacts with DEKRA date from that time,” Schat explains. “We’ve grown up together. The big advantage is DEKRA’s presence in areas in which we also operate. The auditors do a great job and have a wealth of knowledge, which they’ve gained both within our company and through many years of experience in the industry. We in turn benefit from that knowledge.” Independent partner The findings of an independent specialist are very important for an organisation such as NXP with plants on different continents. DEKRA provides objective, expert conclusions, whether when testing, inspecting and certifying products and organisations or in terms of damage expertise and claims management. DEKRA’s independent position means that companies can provide lasting assurance for their customers.
